I have experimented with different throwing techniques.
What
produces the best results for me is when the dice are thrown
quickly and
lobbed, like a knuckleball, without spinning,
toward the corner of the
table.
Some players prefer to try an overhand throw spinning the dice
backward on the axle and others use an underhand throw spinning
the dice
forward to achieve the same results.
When I tried those throwing
techniques, I felt uncomfortable.
Practice different throwing techniques
to find comfort and accuracy.
Perfect landings require that the dice touch together at a specified
location, roll forward
on the
same axle, take few bounces, maintain some momentum,
and finally land as
close together as possible.
Using the
"Target Zone Detector"
© now makes it easier to
specify
the desired landing area.
The
axle refers
to the left side of the dice set. For instance if you
use the # 4
axle set
(dice set with
the number 4 on both dice - left side),
and as the dice lands, the #
4 should be
showing on both dice on the left side.
If the dice are thrown at about a 45 degree angle,
the results are much
improved. The downward angle
will make the dice less likely
to bounce all
over the place.
(Make sure the
dice are thrown from where the dice
touch the surface of the table. This
will improve your game dramatically.)
Try to keep the dice from hitting chips, arms, or
anything else.
The requirements from all casinos are for you to set the dice,
pick up the
dice and throw them quickly.
You must learn to control everything including the ability
to set the dice
quickly,
throw quickly and throw accurately
without any outside interferences.
Your
concentration level has to increase to the point
that you
will be able to
visualize the landing zone and position on the table
where the dice are to
be thrown and the numbers
you desire.
All distractions should be blocked
out.
To achieve success requires practice.
Choosing the correct position at the table will determine
what angle or
where you should throw the dice.
Table lengths vary from as short as 6
feet to 14 feet.
When I throw, I try to position myself to the left of the stickman.
When I starting to learn Controlled Throwing,
I was standing
to the right of the stickman and had a tendency
to hook the
dice into the center of the table.(If you have ever played
golf you realize that putting is very important.
You view the
anticipated way the ball is to travel to get into the hole.
The putter is
then adjusted to determine the correct angle and then
swung using a
pendulum motion.
If all goes well, the ball goes into the hole.)
This same viewing of your landing
zone is necessary
in playing craps. You must concentration on that
zone
and then the dice are thrown with a pendulum swing
from the table to
the landing zone.
If the tables are very hard you could switch and
use a knuckleballThis same viewing of your landing
zone is necessary
in playing craps. You must concentration on that
zone
and then the dice are thrown with a pendulum swing
from the table to
the landing zone.
If the tables are very hard you could switch and
use a knuckleball
to achieve your results.
Home
The throwing motion is critical. As
you throw,
try to keep the motion of your hand and arm
in a straight line.
keep the palms down throughout
the entire throw unless you use the
underhand throw.
This throwing technique should give you greater accuracy.
Throwing this way would help keep you from flicking the dice
sideways and
throwing erratic. Concentrate on this throwing
technique and you will find
that your game should improve.
I suggest that you obtain at least a dozen pair of dice
in different colors.
When you practice you can use two different colors to
see the effects
of your throwing.
You may have to make some adjustments
to correct any irregularities.
To test your throwing
accuracy, place a 5 X 7 sheet of
paper or cloth
about 12 feet from you. Take the dice (if possible buy the
¾ inch dice
that match the casinos,) and go through the motions of picking
up the dice, lobbing them and hitting the paper.
Try to keep the dice from
flipping through the air unless you
can maintain the same axle.
(If this happens, I suggest that you use a different
axle set,
such as a 54, to try to achieve a 4 axle set on the come out roll.
You
will have to experiment to see what works for you.
I found that I had
better success because the left dice was
turning as I threw the dice.)
Another place to practice is on a rug. You can do this in the
hotels
before you actually play. Continued practice will get
your throwing techniques to a point where
you can remove
the paper or cloth and visualize the landing area.
To simulate the angle of the throw and the approximate
height
that you would normally use to pick the dice from a dice table,
you
should sit on the rug and make your throws from that angle.
If you throw
standing up, the angle is incorrect causing the dice
to bounce and roll
more.
These techniques must be applied to any position on the
crap table.
It may be difficult for you to get a position near the stickman,
so your practice should also include different distances.
Throwing on a
rug establishes much different angles for your arms.
The requirement set
by all casinos is that the dice must not be thrown
higher than the
stickman’s head.
Many rugs offer a surface that is similar to the
matting on the table.
Your dice should land
in a tight setting or as close
together as possible.
Another suggestion is that you practice throwing on a bed.
The height of the bed is somewhat similar to the
height of the crap table.
Stand
at different distances and throw at different angles to simulate
the
different table lengths.
The cloth is about the size of
the landing area.
Imagine that the cloth on the bed is the target where the dice are to
land.
The dice should
hit the target nearest the front end of the target.
The dice should roll forward and land
close together.
I suggest that you make a visit to the casino to
determine
the size of the tables before you play.
Practice at least one
hour before attempting to play.
Always practice to get the correct
throwing motion
and increased concentration level.
